A 17-year-old girl has tragically lost her life in a shark attack while swimming at Warrim Beach, located north of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia. The incident occurred on Monday, February 3, at approximately 4:45 PM local time, prompting a swift response from emergency services.

The young victim suffered severe injuries to her upper body during the attack while swimming near the southeastern tip of Bribie Island. Local authorities, including the Queensland Ambulance Service, were quick to arrive on the scene, but despite their efforts, the girl succumbed to her injuries.

While details regarding the species of shark involved have not been confirmed, experts are closely monitoring the situation. Christopher Porter, a local resident, expressed his shock, noting that shark attacks of this nature are extremely rare so close to shore.

"There are a lot of swim groups that swim here, morning and afternoon. It is known that there are many sharks around Bribie, but this close to shore, it is still a shock," Porter told ABC News.

This incident marks the second fatal shark attack in Queensland in just over a month. In December, a 40-year-old pastor tragically lost his life after being mauled by a shark while snorkeling off the central Queensland coast. Queensland is home to over 100 species of sharks, though most do not pose a significant risk to humans.

Shark attacks in the region are uncommon, and authorities are emphasizing that many shark species found in Queensland waters are not considered a danger to people. However, the recent incidents have sparked renewed concerns over beach safety and the unpredictable nature of marine life.
