Author Rée Kundan recently made a surprising confession, disclosing that approximately 5% of her latest novel, "Tokyo-to Dojo-to" (The Compassionate Tower of Tokyo), was generated with the assistance of ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence software. According to Kundan, this collaboration with AI significantly enhanced her creative process.

At 33 years old, Kundan was honored with the prestigious Akutagawa Award, one of Japan's most esteemed literary prizes, for her outstanding work. The jury described her novel as nearly flawless, showcasing an unparalleled level of perfection.

However, during the award ceremony, Kundan revealed her utilization of artificial intelligence in crafting the novel, specifically noting that around 5% of the text was directly generated by AI and seamlessly integrated into her narrative. She further elaborated that she frequently engaged in conversations with the AI, sharing thoughts and ideas that she couldn't discuss with anyone else. Some of the dialogues in her book were even inspired by ChatGPT's responses.

Kundan's novel revolves around the central theme of artificial intelligence and unfolds in a futuristic Tokyo, where a prison tower emerges from the mind of an architect who grapples with discomfort in an excessively permissive society.

Social media buzzed with reactions to Kundan's revelation, with opinions sharply divided. Some questioned whether her use of AI could be considered a display of talent, while others applauded her ingenuity and the effort she invested in her AI dialogues.

Notably, several authors, including George R.R. Martin, have initiated legal action against OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, citing concerns of copyright infringement stemming from the AI's capabilities.
