In a powerful tribute to the origins of the Olympic Games, the French organizers of the Olympic closing ceremony highlighted the significance of Greek heritage by prominently featuring the Greek flag and the national anthem. This symbolic gesture was meant to honor ancient Greece as the birthplace of the Olympics, connecting the modern event to its historical roots.

During the ceremony at the Stade de France, the stadium was plunged into darkness, setting the stage for a captivating performance titled "Records," curated by Toma Jolie. The focal point of the performance was the "golden explorer," who descended from the stadium's roof as part of his symbolic journey.

In a poignant moment, he was handed the Greek flag by the masked torchbearer from the opening ceremony and the steel horseman, all while the Greek national anthem played in full, adding a deeply emotional layer to the tribute.

The organizers explained the significance of this moment, stating, "As ancient Greece was a place of discovery for Pierre de Coubertin and his colleagues when he rediscovered and revived the Olympic Games, our story reflects that journey. Our character, the golden explorer, aids other explorers in awakening the remnants of the Games and rebuilding them, because humanity once created this monument, and it's worth continuing to keep it alive." This narrative set the tone for the ceremony, emphasizing the enduring legacy of the Olympics and the importance of preserving its heritage.

The ceremony's tribute to Greece culminated with the unveiling of the statue of the Victory of Samothrace, further cementing the connection between the ancient and modern Games. The performance was a powerful reminder of the lasting impact of Greek culture on the world and the continued relevance of the Olympic spirit in uniting people across the globe.
