A 32-year-old man was arrested after a knife attack in Leicester Square, London, on Monday afternoon, where an 11-year-old girl and her 34-year-old mother were injured in front of horrified onlookers, including workers and tourists.

The London Metropolitan Police have stated that the incident is not believed to be terrorism-related. The young girl is currently being treated for serious injuries but is not in life-threatening condition. Witnesses described the terrifying scene, noting that the attacker appeared to focus his aggression on the girl, grabbing her in a headlock before stabbing her.

A security guard at Leicester Square, where the attack took place, played a critical role in subduing the assailant. Recounting the event, he said, "I heard a scream and saw a man, around 30 years old, stabbing a child. I jumped on him, grabbed the hand holding the knife, and forced him to the ground, taking the knife from him. ." The guard and his colleagues then administered first aid to the injured child.

Another eyewitness confirmed the harrowing details, noting that the suspect seemed intent on attacking the girl, even head-butting her before stabbing her.

The attack has sent shockwaves through the community, but thanks to the quick actions of bystanders, including the brave security guard, further harm was prevented. The investigation into the motive behind the attack continues, as authorities ensure the safety and well-being of the victims.
